Pears have been cultivated for over four thousand years.
There are over five thousand varieties.
Pears are cousins to the apple.
Most pears are grown west of the Rockies, where disease is less of a problem.
A pear tree can produce fruit for over a hundred years, provided
it doesn’t get hit by a train.
